The airport lounge is packed with travelers, some weary and some with excitement reflected in their eyes. Sipping her coffee, she lightly wraps the silk scarf a little closer to her neck. She had worn the scarf as a wrap for her swimsuit yesterday and as a halter at her farewell party afterwards. The decorated elephants on the scarf will always remind her of the land she had come to love. Her home for a few months, Thailand would always be close to her heart.
A lunch date with the girls, a perfect way to spend her one free afternoon. She checks her reflection in the store window as she walks by, and gives a satisfied smile. The beige silk of her Art Scarf folded and draped over her rust colored shirt pairs perfectly with her favorite tailored denim and suede blazer. She loves the way the henna pattern of the scarf and the rolled rust hem contrasts against the solid colors of her shirt and blazer. Stepping through the glass doors, she enters the cozy bistro and is greeted by a wave of hands; she walks over eager to rejoin her quartet, her pinot noir already waiting.
The myriad of colors in the silk is strikingly beautiful as she ties her scarf around a straw hat and dons her colorful accessory to protect against the sweltering heat of the Indian sun. The scenic beaches of Goa are beyond her expectations and the soft sand feels like powder as she wiggles her feet deeper in it. A day spent sunbathing by the sparkling waters, she slips on a pair of loose linen pants, unties the silk scarf, and folds the hat into her bag. She now wears the painted scarf halter style, and is ready for the evening ahead as she strolls towards the soft strands of the guitar nearby.
The cafe has long been a favorite for them and she sits there absentmindedly twirling the end of her silk scarf around her neck. It had been a long road and it seemed eons ago, or maybe just yesterday, when she sat here alone and a dashing stranger had stopped by and asked to join her. She wonders if he remember, she had worn this painted silk that fateful day. She considered it her good luck charm, with the little red and blue Buddha pattern lining the edge. Smiling, she takes out a matching pocket scarf and tucks it in his jacket pocket and he laughs and leans over to give her a kiss, leaving her in no doubt of his memories.
Rushing out of the doors, she hails a taxi, climbs in and glances at her watch. A few more minutes and she would have been late for the meeting. She opens her compact mirror, checks her lipstick and adjusts the ascot knot of her silk scarf over her crisp white shirt. The word “women” shows amongst the greys and reds of the scarf and she allows herself a smile. She feels confident when she wears this scarf, knowing she is helping in a small way, and today especially she needs that poise and self assurance. The scarf helps fight domestic violence and a portion of the proceeds is donated to the cause, read more about this here.
